The School of Optometry and Vision Science (SOVS) is proud to announce that Scientia Professor Fiona Stapleton has been awarded the prestigious Ruben Medal, the highest honor of the International Society for Contact Lens Research (ISCLR). This esteemed award, voted on by previous recipients, recognizes Professor Stapleton’s outstanding contributions to contact lens-related research.

“We are thrilled to see Fiona’s groundbreaking work in contact lens research recognized at such a high level,” said Professor Lisa Keay, Head of School at School of Optometry & Vision Science. “Her dedication and innovative approach have significantly advanced our understanding and application of contact lenses.”

In addition, SOVS PhD candidate MD Abdullah Aziz has been awarded the Hikaru Hamano Travel Fellowship. Aziz’s abstract titled “Design of a system to deliver atropine to the eye from an antimyopia contact lens” received the highest votes during the selection process at the 22nd ISCLR Symposium, recently held in Canada. This fellowship will support his continued research and professional development in the field.

“We also extend our congratulations to Aziz for his remarkable achievement,” added Professor Keay. “His research promises to make significant contributions to the field, and we are excited to see his future work.”
