At ÁñÁ«¹ÙÍø, Research Integrity Advisors (RIAs) promote the responsible conduct of research and provide advice to those with concerns about potential breaches of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and the ÁñÁ«¹ÙÍø Code of Conduct and Values.

RIAs are senior members of staff and experienced researchers who possess a thorough knowledge of research practices and the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research. At ÁñÁ«¹ÙÍø, RIAs are usually the Deputy/Associate Dean (Research) within each ÁñÁ«¹ÙÍø Faculty.

For students and staff at ÁñÁ«¹ÙÍø, RIAs are your first point of contact for any questions on research practice or concerns about research integrity.

What assistance can RIAs offer?

    • advise on responsible and acceptable research practices.
    • advise on requirements under applicable legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
    • provide confidential advice regarding research integrity concerns.
    • offer guidance on the most appropriate option to resolve a concern, such as locally or through referral for formal resolution.
    • provide advice and guidance on the process to raise a complaint about a potential breach of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and the ÁñÁ«¹ÙÍø Code of Conduct and Values under the Complaints Management & Investigations Policy & Procedure.Ìý
    • offer procedural guidance to staff or students to enable a person to respond to a complaint made against them regarding a potential breach of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and the ÁñÁ«¹ÙÍø Code of Conduct and Values.
    • refer a complaint to the ÁñÁ«¹ÙÍø Conduct and Integrity Office.
    • RIAs cannot advise on matters where they have a potential, perceived or actual conflict of interest.Ìý
    • RIAs cannot advocate on behalf of any staff member or student in relation to complaints about a potential breach of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and the ÁñÁ«¹ÙÍø Code of Conduct and Values.
    • RIAs cannot investigate or make determinations in relation to complaints about a potential breach of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and the ÁñÁ«¹ÙÍø Code of Conduct and Values.
  • For students and staff at ÁñÁ«¹ÙÍø, if you’re not comfortable speaking to the RIA at your faculty or if you’re unable to make contact, you may contact the RIA of any other faculty. Under certain circumstances, discussing your concerns with a person unconnected with your faculty might be helpful.

Alternatively, you may contact the ÁñÁ«¹ÙÍø Conduct and Integrity Office directly. We will assist in managing your enquiry or request for assistance.
